Smiles in green
Portraits of children are honest. Unlike adults, most have not learned to portray a fake persona to the outside. They share their emotions more sincerely. Smiles come from a deeper, more genuine place, as so do frowns. I didn’t take out my camera a lot when I went to the project. Usually, it kept me from being more productive. Whenever the kids spotted my roughed up old canon, they would flock around me, asking for their pictures to be taken. With their tiny hands, they pulled me from place to place, trying to find the perfect spot for a portrait. In front of the turquoise wooden walls of the church, or with scenery of dark, deep foliage behind them. Never even the smallest glimpse of shyness in their smiles.

Safe walls
Fields consisting more of gravel than grass. riddled with holes and pitfalls. Barefoot, a football at their feet. Four concrete blocks, two on each side, as goal posts. To the children playing, it is the most prestigious stadium in th world. An escape from the reality that awaits them just meters outside the gates of the project. Many of thr kids living in Limon dos Mill take on a life of crime in their early years. they are romised protection for themselves and their families. In return, selling drugs, violence is asked of them. A slope not many can escape from. Two brothers, one 13 and the other 14 were arrested ith charges of murder. becuase both were minors, the government placed them in a rehabilitation programm, under gudance of a local Pastor. he had to wacth and look after the two children and report to the police at set intervals. by putting them to work and beginning to teach them honest and familli values, he was able to lead them back onto a path away from crime. The zounger brother got mrried a few years ago. he now works at one of the many docks around Limon, with a prosperous outlook on life. he and his brother spend a lot of ti,e at the project, aiding in teaching and guiding people that gather there.
